Our History
Hilltop Plumbing was established in 1985 by Tom Thurlow. Tom became an expert in plumbing throughout his many years in the business. He brought his knowledge and skills to the young, eager students at Ellis Technical High School in Danielson, CT, teaching the Apprentice Plumbing and Heating Program at night for ten years. His favorite apprentice, his son Peter, was never far behind and soon became an employee of his dad’s company. In 2002, Tom and Peter began building houses and Hilltop Building was established. They quickly saw that they could build more cost-effective homes if they could limit the amount of work that had to be sub-contracted out. In 2003, Hilltop Excavation was born with Peter at the helm. Peter has taken Hilltop Excavation from just the site-work of a home to larger jobs. Hilltop Excavation performed all the site work and installed all of the processed piping for the Town of Putnam, CT Well Field. In 2005, Tom and his wife, Debra, acquired Connecticut General Oil, which they grew into a local, competitive, full service oil company. Offering home heating fuel delivery, heating system cleaning to heating system replacement, whenever the customer needs it. As of January 1, 2013, Connecticut General Oil merged with Hometown Heating who now provides all of the oil deliveries for Connecticut General Oil’s customers. Hilltop Plumbing has continued to provide excellent service and pricing for both residential and commercial properties.
In 2007, Peter graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Connecticut and then joined the company full time. The most recent company to be established was in 2009 with Hilltop Septic and Service which was a perfect fit with Tom and Peter’s knowledge and equipment. This also has blossomed into one of the leading septic companies in Windham County, CT with no restrictions on service. Hilltop Septic and Service offers everything from septic tank installation and pumping to septic tank cleaning, inspections and complete septic system replacements.
In 2013, Hilltop Septic and Service changed its name to Hilltop Contractors to combine the companies they had created over the years, which encompasses septic and service, excavation and snow plowing. Peter is now at the helm of Hilltop Contractors, LLC providing septic installations, maintenance, inspections, cleanings, repairs, replacements and more. Peter has taken his knowledge and expertise in all of these areas and combined it into one company. We think this will be less confusing to our current and future customers!
Hilltop Contractors is a family-owned, family-run business. The father-son team of Peter and Tom was enhanced by Debra, Tom’s wife, who started with the company in 2005 with the acquisition of Connecticut General Oil. She has been a friendly, familiar voice for customers providing them with excellent customer service. In 2012, she ventured towards another adventure with Loos & Co. We couldn’t be happier for her! Following in the family business theme, Peter’s wife Jaclyn took the torch passed onto her from Debra and continues to provide the same friendly, familiarity that our customers have grown accustomed to. Hilltop Contractors, being a family business, makes the often overwhelming process of home maintenance less daunting. The time is taken to explain what is needed and why, while keeping in mind that the work being done is often unplanned. The experts at Hilltop Contractors understand this and specifically work hard to keep costs to a minimum and provide all services 24/7 for any unforeseen problems. Our customers are part of our family!
Servicing Windham County: Brooklyn, Danielson, Killingly, Ashford, Canterbury, Woodstock, Plainfield, Windham, Pomfret, Putnam, Thompson, Hampton, Sterling and Chaplin, CT. Special requests outside of market will be considered.
